Cheap Behringer GM108

I'm a sucker for cheap shit sometimes...one of my favorites for true bedroom level playing has been Tech-21 Tm-10 and its copies. I've had a few of those, and again bought this $15 Behringer GM108 amp. It's rather ratty a thing, but I put in a slightly better Fender 8" speaker, and it's really more than good enuff for noodling at home, and you can play it extremely quietly and need no headphones.

Here I toyed with the first looper I ever have had, and the Behri, before starting the day's work. It's really low volume here too, you can hear my son making breakfast clear across the house in the background.

I´ve read good things about it for what it is; it offers enough sound possibilities for bedroom players - but not exclusively for them only -, for practicing in the office, etc.

Well, yeah...its does sound decent at extremely low volume at some setting and for some type sounds. It's still a ratty Tech-21 tm10 copy...now those are stellar bedroom amps. This is noisy, the original speaker is rather fizzy, and it has very little dynamics.

But, even the crappiest amp always has at least some good tones available, if you dig deep enough. And they may work really well for what they are.

I had a 30-watt 10" version of this earlier and it was much better. Actually that's one amp I should have kept. It was very close to Tech 21 sound and even had a reverb, although pretty lousy one.

can't say I have. No reason to tread so close to the wall generally. Now that you mention, though, it might be possible some night when 'inder teh unfluence'

BTW I think I'm gonna sell off that Inferno some of these days. I'm gonna put in a Gibson bridge pup, 498t, when I get around to it eventually, and give it another shot. But as it is and good as it otherwise sounds, it lacks low end clarity too much in band context.

I play a lot of chording that employs small changes in the chord, often in bass notes, such as only one bass note changes half a step or whatever, and I need enough clarity in my sound that it can be heard clearly. The low end on these pickups is rather mushy really, and having no pole pieces can't do anything about it.

As perhaps the looks suggest, this guitar is best suited for thick screaming lead work and massive low end chunk, not that great for rhythm work requiring clarity and bite.

There are some small "practice amps" that really sound good. Typically (IME) the drive channels are hit or miss, but the cleans on a lot of the smaller combos are definitely usable for recording and have pleasing tone overall. The Acoustic 20 watt combo I had a couple months ago (a buddy has it now) had a 10" speaker and great tone on the clean channel. The Behringer stuff is incredibly inexpensive. I've had good luck with Behringer products overall. Some of their pedals are underrated for sure.
