We've all know that both Boston and Def Leppard prominently used the Rockman on their recordings. We've also heard that the pedal version of the new Rockman has been released at NAMM 2025
Every day for the last couple of weeks I've been listening to Dokken's Under Lock and Key album . . . on the the original 1985 Elektra cassette tape . . . wearing AKG studio headphones.
I can believe that George used the same Marshall on Tooth and Nail that Slash later used on GNR's Appetite for Destruction.
I can also hear the tone of a Duncan Distortion on Back For the Attack. Some say it was actually a DD modified with a thinner ceramic magnet.
But I would bet that George used a Rockman on Under Lock and Key. It's just got that tone, especially the unique sound of the chorus.

A lot of people used them...and didn't admit it. There are a lot of advantages to not having to mike things, or worry about tubes.
ZZ Top's Afterburner was Rockman, as (so I've heard) was Girls, Girls, Girls.
And I find it ironic that we're modeling the original now.

I still have my original rock man. X100? It was my tone for awhile. I couldn't rely on it. The weight of the guitar cable kept breaking the solder to the jack. Sometimes only last a few days and I tried strain relieving it. I think it could break just plugging in

Check around online. I gather there are people who refurbish Rockman gear to a very high quality standard.nomadh wrote: ↑Fri Feb 14, 2025 6:05 pm I still have my original rock man. X100? Same for me, except it was the Sholtz Sustainer into a Roland JC120 (occasionally, two of them). It got old quick as the dirt sound came in two flavors: big and bigger. It was pretty mid-forward as well.

I ran my HX Stomp into a set of Alto powered speakers using a Rockman patch I downloaded, and the clean tone was Hysteria. It was perfect.
I did similar with my 11Rack, modifying the "Metal Spread" preset, and it sounded like a Rockman with serious gain.
I like the Rockman-style tone. It'll never be my go-to tone, but it always sounds good.
