REALLY glad I'm no longer living in the Northeast!!

It is a gorgeous day here in San Antonio. Huge blue sky. 70 degrees. Pretty much perfect weather.

But I see NYC and New Jersey are about to get hit with 18-24 inches of snow. F--k that.

I'm going to go sunbathe in the backyard now.

I guess it just depends on who you are, I love snow. My fiancée and I go sledding in the park nearby because they have these huge hills and it's always a ton of fun. I much prefer the occasional cold for a few months to the insane heat Texas gets...you can bundle up and be perfectly comfortable outside when it's cold but there's only so much you can do (legally anyway  ) to cool yourself down outside when the heat is oppressive.

Believe me, it gets crazy hot in NYC too. I couldn't believe how hot. And down in the subways, in the summer, I'm sure some of those stations are over 120 degrees. And no air conditioning on the platforms....or the sidewalks.

I sure miss that funky and hot bouquet of urine, feces & disinfectant that permeates the NYC subway system . . . NOT!

Though I will admit there is something charming about a blizzard in NYC, in a cozy novelty sort of way, though the delusional fantasy aspect of it only lasts for about the first half of an afternoon. After that it becomes a major PITA. Can't hardly walk across an intersection, wet feet, the store shelves are cleaned out of milk and bread, they're dumping snow into the river cause there's nowhere to put it.

Yes I know, I live in NYC :). I'm onto working permanently from home so luckily I don't have to deal with the subways at all anymore, but that was always the worst part of NYC summer for sure. The heat in Texas does feel different than the heat in NY though.

The problem with the Northeast you fled, is that it's too far south.

I am skate skiing almost every day after work. Its right on my way home. A great season of the year, in the best mountains this side of the Rockies. IMO.

It's definitely coming down today! It's actually pretty nice while it's snowing - it's quiet and kind of magical. My wife decided to brave the elements and go to work, since she'd get stir-crazy sitting around the house with nothing to do (which makes it a good choice for both of us!), and she went by Whole Foods on the way, and says that it was dead quiet and all the staff was in a good mood and even started a sing-along while she was there.

Fury is intrigued by the snow but glad to be inside. I took this picture earlier this morning, but the snow's gotten significantly heavier since then.

That said, a guy just went down the snowy, unplowed highway that runs by my house in a Dodge Challenger, attempting to power his way through it and fishtailing all over the place. I expect to hear a report of a single-car accident any moment now... :-/

Oops, never paid much attention to my (aging, 2012) wipers, and broke both rubber blades on the truck trying to free them from ice.
I figured to go Toyota refills, as I read originals are great, but parts guy says my wipers weren't originals... so got some Rain X Latitude on sale at local NAPA!
Car nuts seem to change them every year or so.

Silblades coming thru Amazon tomorrow. They let us out of work at 12pm today, whether I am going in tomorrow depends on how much more we get and if they plow my state road.

Like pesky I'm glad I don't have to deal with that white stuff anymore. Being a Southern boy I can take the heat better than cold. put up with south Tekas summers much better than a Boston or Missouri winter.

my virtual gf, who lives in NJ, sent me photos of her yard and street. Looks brutal.

here in San Antonio, it's 68, with clear blue skies and lots of glorious sunshine.

Yeah, this Texas boy did his time in northern winters. 5 in Rhode Island and 23 in NYC. That's far more than enough.

Does that mean the weather here is perfect? Nope. The summers are indeed hellaciously hot. And air-conditioning gets expensive. It's a matter of preference, and I prefer my Southwest.

May I say, as someone living in Canada this time of year, go Momo yourself.

had heard some chatter about snow coming our way last week, but didn't think much of it. we were certainly surprised to wake up to 2 inches or so on the ground Thursday morning. In the overabundance of caution as has become typical of VA, my daughter's daycare was cancelled. instead she had her first snow day!

Who is the first one to post a pic of a couple of chairs as freshly-shoveled parking space savers..?!!!?

Now outlawed practice, I understand - what is the world coming to?

We have the heavy back breaking, hernia, and heart attack freezing slush underneath with wet snow on top.
Coastal NJ.

Can only clear small sections at a time then I'm just whooped.

Told to stay home again today as the toll highways are pretty clear but all the local stuff is slushy and icy, and the lot at work is not cleared.
Trying to NOT strain my back so I can enjoy some guitar time.

Stay safe out there folks.

Here at the Cape we got rain.

I lived in San Antonio (wife from New Braunfels, son was born in Uvalde) and even though the winters are mild compared to the Northeast. The heat killed me even after living there for a few years. I wasn't able to acclimated to the heat. My air conditioner would be at set to 65 degree year round. Floating the river was uncomfortable hot for me.

The wife and I moved to Maine during one of the coldest winters we had. She actually loved it and she rather have four season.

Times like this, I'm glad I don't live in New England anymore, but it doesn't make me like living in California any better.

I'm actually a fan of winter and big snowstorms now and then. Our area of the north has been missed by most of the big ones this year, farther south has gotten pounded several times and north of us they always get a ton of snow by the Great Lakes from lake effect. For whatever reason we end up some years getting the cold but not a lot of snow and this year it's the case. WE have enough to cover the ground but that's about it. I think we are gettting 3-5 inches later this week but i'd be all for a big old blizzard one of these days.

You know what they say:
95 degrees in New York; 72 in California.
15 degrees in New York; 72 in California.
Millions of cultured, intelligent, interesting people in New York...

Watched the snow coming down in New England on Live WebCams. I used to always get stuck by storms when I travelled the US for business. Snow movement and removal is hard work!
