I'm sure there are people who are bigger fans of him than me, but I really love his playing on this song:

I wasn't a 'huge' fan but saw him a couple of times in the 90's. A very underrated guitarist and a sad loss. RIP

Didnt he die a long time ago? What happened to him? He was one of the greats.

He apparently died peacefully in his sleep last night at age 74 according to a statement from his family. Lots of articles out there if you use the googlez.

One of the tragic stories of Rock. Blessed he left behind some of the best blues guitar ever recorded.

RIP Peter Green. His influence among guitar players definitely casts a long shadow.

Anyone a fan of Fletwood Mac's "Need you so Bad"? If there is one single tune that captures the essence of Peter Green's style, that one is it for me.

RIP, such a shame what drugs stole from the world long ago. He was such a monster talent.

I believe, that when The Grateful Dead first toured Europe..1972?/?.... Green partied with them and perhaps lost his mind one fateful weekend.
Was never the same, needed psychiatric care. Was a fry cook down in Texas for a long time...something like that. Then got back into playing in his band "Splinter Cell", but was never near the caliber of his former natural self.

To clarify, while he did undoubtedly by his own admission take LSD a bunch of times...Peter Green was also schizophrenic and received ECT treatment in psychiatric hospitals back in the 1970s. I imagine his mental illness was far more responsible for his decline and fading from music than drugs ever were. I'm sure they didn't help things much though.

A sad loss regardless, he was a masterful musician.

He had schizophrenia. The drugs do not cause mental illness but they can certainly exacerbate an episode. He no doubt was having some issues and may have used drugs to self medicate plus well ... it was the 60's. I have personally seen the toll that paranoid schizophrenia can take on an individuals life. It can be a devastating condition.

Vapors...

I was not aware, only had seen the stories about him having a really bad trip and never being the same...

I suppose it is easier for the band to blame it on that incident than blame mental illness.
