OT: Anyone see the Bee Gees documentary?

It's called How Can you Mend a Broken Heart.

Caught it last weekend with the wife and we both enjoyed it. I knew that they had written SO MANY songs for other artists but not all of the ones mentioned in the show.

Also interesting to see how many different styles of music they did before they actually became the Bee Gees everyone remembers (Disco). I know this is a guitar forum but talent is talent.

I'm 34 so I never grew up with the 'stigma' of disco hanging over them and enjoyed a lot of their stuff (including the pre-disco stuff like Massachusetts and I've Gotta Get a Message to You)

I saw one a few years ago and like you say amazing how many hits they wrote for others. I admit the reason I despised disco was it made it near impossible to find live music in the late 70's unless you were at a concert. Most bar owners back then simply brought in a dj to play disco because it brought in dancing people who spent more on drinks than guys like me there to listen to a band. A band that could pull in women was an exception. As any bar owner will tell you if you can get women in men will follow and pay for the privilege.

I saw the Broadway (touring) show. I'm different in distiguishing what I think of as talent, watching TV or movie with me has to bee (did ya see what I did) exhausting. Bee Gees had talent, I own some and can sing quite a few of their songs.
I'll look for that show.

Love the Bee Gees.
I realized last night that a cool song on Rhino Nuggets II Box set was written by them.
around 1966.

I'll say it: even their disco stuff was good.

I love the story of how Barry was working with Kenny Rogers. He was recording "Islands in the Stream," and wasn't feeling it. Then Barry said "you what this needs? Dolly Parton." And it did.

Yep, the BeeGees were good. Of course, when I was a kid, I didn't know they existed before Saturday Night Fever. It was a hard pill to swallow when I realized that I already liked the BeeGees and I didn't know it... and some of my musical heroes liked the BeeGees too. I just didn't realize that the songs that I liked were by the BeeGees.

I resented them and disco crowding out the rock I liked. Maybe the hate has passed enough now so i can enjoy the documentary. :)
