Been going back through and revisiting the 10 albums that have most inspired me as a player.

1. Flying In a Blue Dream - Joe Satriani
2. Surfing With The Alien - Joe Satriani
3. Passion and Warfare - Steve Vai
4. Ride The Lightning - Metallica
5. Rust in Peace - Megadeth
6. Souls of Black - Testament
7. Images and Words - Dream Theater
8. White Lion - Pride
9. Iron Maiden - Somewhere in Time
10. Savatage - Gutter Ballet

This tune is heavily influenced by Dream Theater - I honestly didn't try to fight it and start changing stuff around. Figured it be a good tune to pay homage to a band and album that completely changed the way I think about guitar, putting tunes together and tone.

Please enjoy!

I missed the first tune but will cue this one up in a second. I loved Savatage up through Gutter Ballet. I would LOVE to hear you cover Legions from Hall Of The Mountain King album. I saw them on that tour as first band up before Megadeth and then DIO. What a Show!

Criss Oliva died far far too young. Would have loved to seen where he would have gone with things.

Dang Narsh, this one needs to be "Out There" on the radio and youtube and wherever else.

Thanks man. It was one of those that just came out. Plus I hadn't messes with the SLS I a while. Was nice to play that guitar.

Yep, what Fullonshred said. That sounds like it could be a B-side to Images and Words, or even Awake. I've always thought of John Petrucci as a guitar chameleon: not only does he have his own identifiable sound, but he can also sound like nearly any other guitarist, and you're hard pressed to hear the difference. And you've done the same thing to John... you have your own sound, but when you decided to sound like JP, you sound just like JP :-)

I DID enjoy it!

I can definitely hear those influences from your list.

I wish I could get more proficient in my studio to overcome the drudgery of the mechanics of recording efficiently. Ain’t saying I’d do as much as you, but damn you’re prolific. Wish I had the time.

Sounds great as always Narsh

I think you could pull it off, seriously. Why not master a few of your favorites, register them with the licensing entities and get 'em distributed? Spotify (etc.) doesn't pay much, but I'd certainly have your work in my playlists. Let it help pay for the hobby. Once you get aligned with a distributor, you wouldn't need to do much more than you're doing uploading to soundcloud.

If you're already on streaming platforms, let me know where - I'll give the "follow."

With the instrumental composition you favor, you'd be squarely in line for syncronization. You just never know what could happen. The commercial, video gaming, and film industries need music.

Every time I see you've posted a new one, I drag my laptop over to my "good" speaker system so I can hear it as properly as streaming will allow. (I'm not familiar with how much control there is uploading to Soundcloud, but they're killing your high freqs)

Thanks man, really appreciate that.

I've kinda been there, done that and I'm not really interested in doing that again. Every time I've focused on making an album and getting it out, the music loses the vibe and my creativity suffers greatly. This is my outlet, my stress relief and a while a go I promised myself I would do this for me, play what I like and do my best to not succumb to trends etc. That means just focusing on letting out what needs to be let out and sharing it with as little overhead as possible.

I know Soundcloud isn't the best and the compression does kill a bit of the high low but its easy and with everything else I do, it works out.
I started keeping everything the same from a mastering perspective so I can throw a year's worth of content on Bandcamp in HQ format so hopefully that will help.

But as always, I'm so glad you guys enjoy the tunes. I'll keep pumping them out :)

You've earned the kudos, brother... your tracks are always a pleasure.

I can relate to what you've said. I seriously understand the pressure of a timetable or what a project "needs to be" being detrimental to the creative flow of things. It tends to murder my muse in brutal fashion. Stress, pressure, and expectation can ruin all the fun. I'm with you there.

But, why does it have to? Who is setting what goals?

I'm leaving a lot of money on the table in my little guitar body business, and it's for the very same reasons you've stated. Anytime I assign an expectation (be it mine or someone else's), all of the fun and creativity seems to be sapped out of it. So... I don't take commissions or requests, I don't stress about getting inventory up, and I make whatever the hell I want to see exist, whenever I want. I simply post what I make to my shop, and I don't care if they sell or not. I don't advertise, or even worry about any of it until someone asks a question via the store or just buys one.

If I set my mind to just being a "factory," and built whatever folks asked me to from 9-5 everyday I could probably make it a decent career. I certainly get enough commission requests. However, I know myself, and I know that's not sustainable because I'll start dreading the work. I'll quit. Even though the math tells me that I could easily hit low six figures in sales if I really hustled.

So I understand when you say:

"This is my outlet, my stress relief and a while a go I promised myself I would do this for me, play what I like and do my best to not succumb to trends etc. That means just focusing on letting out what needs to be let out and sharing it with as little overhead as possible."

Right, so do that. Don't change anything or follow trends. Write and perform as you normally would. Leave mistakes in, or don't - you do you - business as usual. It doesn't matter, your tracks will find their audience in the same way they find listeners here - meaning the same set of members are listening and commenting when you link your music. You set the goal line, no one else. Cross it, be happy.

But then... only one more step: upload the work to a distributor. Then forget it, start the next track.

It's not expensive. Distrokid costs $20 per year for unlimited upload to all major streaming platforms. Hell, I'll spot you the twenty.

Sync is a bit more complicated, but see how the streaming thing goes. You might find yourself some motivation to fill out the sync paperwork when your tracks pick up steam via streaming.

You may even have a gig offered to you. Fuck, I'd hire you - you shred fretboards, play tastefully, understand dynamics, and seem to have a great attitude.

Or, go with status quo - I'll say no more... I only make the suggestion because I think more folks would enjoy the work. It's quality stuff, and people will find it if you make it available.

Either way, thanks again for trusting in us enough to post it here. Keep it up. I don't always comment, but I listen to each one.

Cheers!

You're welcome. Read some reviews, as there are several distributors out there.

Let me know when you do, I use Spotify and YT music - you've got two definite follows once you do.
